No rehearsal on Monday, December 23 or Monday, December 30
If you are interested in joining the chorus, please join us Mondays at 9:30 AM at Broadmoor Baptist Church
The Baton Rouge Music Club Chorus is a group of volunteer singers from the Greater Baton Rouge area. Rehearsals are held on Mondays at Broadmoor Baptist Church from September through May.
BRMCC has performed for seniors and others in venues all over the area for all kinds of occasions, from the annual Ebb and Flow Arts Festival in Baton Rouge, to the State Capitol and the USS Kidd. Most of our performances however, take place in senior living communities, nursing homes, Alzheimer’s centers, adult day care facilities, churches, and senior and civic clubs. Audience participation is encouraged during BRMCC performances, and many sing along and clap their hands during each event. Research from the AARP and the National Institutes of Health have proven that music improves mood and memory in the elderly.
Music selections are from music our audiences remember—- primarily medleys from popular Broadway shows and films, as well as Americana. BRMCC performs a special selection for the holidays in December of traditional carols as well as secular Christmas songs. From January through May, we sing our primary program. BRMCC in a typical year performs at 16-20 events, reaching over 1000 people in a typical year.
The history of the Baton Rouge Music Club Chorus (BRMCC) begins with our primary sponsor, The Music Club of Baton Rouge, which was founded in 1909.
In 1927, a member of The Music Club of Baton Rouge, Mrs. W. Carruth Jones, saw a need to uplift the elderly through music, especially those who were disabled and shut in, and BRMCC was born. And for over 95 years, BRMCC has been going strong, entertaining the most isolated elderly citizens in the greater East Baton Rouge Parish Area, and bringing them musical cheer.
If you are interested in having the BRMCC perform for your group or if you would like to join the chorus, please fill out the form on the Contact Us page.
Please note: Performances are only scheduled during the daytime.
